Our Staff

Nga Tamariki employs a supervisor, three under-two teachers, four over-two teachers and a part-time cook.

Sharee Sharee Ormond, Supervisor ( Monday - Friday)

Kia Ora, my name is Sharee Ormond. I started at Nga Tamariki in 2004 while I was on my first teaching practicum and have been here ever since. Throughout this time I     have gained my degree and full teacher registration. In August 2012, I was appointed to the Supervisor position. I love the family atmosphere at the centre, and working with the   wonderful teachers, children and whanau.




   Emma Emma Munro, Under Two Team Leader (Monday - Friday)

Kiaora my name is Emma Munro and I am the Under Two Team Leader. I have been a teacher here at Nga Tamariki since the end of 2007, first as a reliever while I studied and now as a permanent teacher. I gained my Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) from Victoria Unversity in 2012 and I also have a BSc in Managemnt Science  and Linguistics from Canterbury University.

I live in Lower Hutt with my husband Stu, we are keen sports fans and enjoy watching rugby, leauge, cricket and tennis. I also am a keen cook.

Diane Diane Maunsell, Over Two Teacher (Monday - Friday)

Hi my name is Diane Maunsell and I am one of the over two teachers here at Nga Tamariki. I have been working here since 2006 and became a qualified teacher in June 2009. I have been working in early childhhod since 1995. In my spare time I am a Girl Guiding leader in an active unit in the Linden District. I have been involved in girl guiding since the age of 7. First as a brownie, guide, ranger and leader in brownie, guide and ranger units. I am also activley involved in the Catholic Church and attended world youth day in Sydney, Australia. My other intrests are movies, cross-stich, reading, tramping, camping and listening to a wide range of music.




  Cherie Valster, Over Two Teacher (Monday - Friday)

Hi, my name is Cherie Valster and I have been working at NgÄ Tamariki for five years. I have just completed my degree in ECE teaching at the end of 2013. I live in Upper Hutt and I am married to Todd and have two children, Gabriel 26 and Max 18, plus a dog, a cat, two fish, and quite a few caterpillars. I work with the over twos which I love as I can get as messy as they do (I bring spare clothes), and it is a great privilege to be part of children's early years. In my spare time I follow socccer and my family are Phoenix supporters as well as growing a few vegies.




Michelle Michelle Smithies, Over Two Teacher (Monday - Wednesday) and Under Two Teacher (Friday)

Hi, my name is Michelle Smithies,

I have been working in early childhood since I left school, I have been working at Nga Tamariki since the beginning of 2009.

I am married and have three boys aged 20, 16 and 11.  We as a family are involved in a local church called Hope Centre.

I have a diploma in ECE and this year I started an upgrade to the degree. I am really loving the challenges and new learning this is bringing. I couldn't think of a more important job and feel privileged to be part of young lives.

Rae Rae Pohe, Under Two Teacher (Monday - Friday)

Hi my name is Rae Pohe. I first began teaching at Nga Tamariki as a teacher reliever for Select Recruitment Agency. Since then (2008) I have been working in a full-time teaching role in the under two area. What I love best about my job is the wonderful children, parents and co-workers I am privileged to work with.





Janet Janet Nicholas,  Under Two Teacher (Monday - Thursday)

Hi, my name is Janet and I am a qualified teacher working with the infants and toddlers at the centre. I have worked at Nga Tamariki at various times as a full-time or part-time teacher. I am passionate about working with our babies as I know how precious they are and I feel privileged to be entrusted to care for and nurture them.

Wendy   Wendy Edmonds, Financial Administrator

 Hi, I'm Wendy the administrator for Nga Tamariki and I have been in this role since 2012. I am the person who hassles parents to sign forms and pay fees! I usually work from around 9am till 2pm each day so if you want to contact me please ring, email or even better, pop into the staff room to see me.

I have a Diploma in Sports Studies and another in Kindergarten Teaching and have previously worked in Family Day Care so I love having a job that involves me in quality early childhood education and care.

My hubby Simon and I have brought up 4 daughters in Petone and love living by the sea and river where I walk our beagle Chester.
